Hello! I just bought a GE GTW460ASJWW 4.2 cu. ft. Top Load Washer and have been having an issue with it being seriously out of balance when I wash sheets. I have tried various settings including the precise fill, manual water level and other settings. In each case the sheets become knotted and the washer is so out of balance that it walks and bangs and needs me to stop it to untangle the sheets and reorganize them.
Is there anything that will fix this? More water? Different setting? I am only washing one set of king size sheets and pillow cases - nothing else. I have about another week to decide whether to send this back - so I would appreciate any suggestions.
The washer does seem to be balanced when not running and does wash other types of laundry without an issue.
Thanks!
LH

Top-loading washing machines usually use a part called an agitator (which looks like a large screw or drill bit in the middle of the washing compartment) to 'stir' (or, in other words, 'agitate') the clothes being washed. If the agitator stops working properly, maintenance and repair work may require removing it. Because different washing machines' agitators are attached in different ways, it's important to know how to remove the agitator properly to avoid damaging it and incurring a costly repair.
If you are removing the GE washer agitator because you have a piece of clothing stuck underneath it, please try untwisting the stuck clothing free before trying to remove the agitator. Figure out the direction in which the agitator spins (usually the direction in which it is easy to turn the drum), then hold the outside drum in place while spinning the agitator in the opposite direction. This is to reverse the direction of the agitator to untwist the clothing from underneath it. As you continue to reverse spin the agitator, slowly pull the piece of clothing out and untwist until it is completely free of the agitator. If this fails, then try removing the agitator to retrieve your clothing.
